OPARC’s Business Workforce Specialist, La Treta Luster, has created wonderful and effective Visual Resumes for individuals we serve who have significant employment barriers. The visual resume helps to promote and highlight the skills of the individual to potential employers. La Treta Luster’s position is funded by a grant targeted to assist those attending OPARC’s Behavior Management Program in Walnut. The grants we receive are a crucial additional resource for funding the job development, support and coaching necessary for adults with disabilities seeking employment.
Today we would like to highlight Selena. Selena has been working at Katie’s Pet Depot as a Pet Care Specialist through the Paid Internship Program (PIP) and has done quite well. The visual resume created by La Treta demonstrates the variety of tasks and skills Selena has learned. Selena’s favorite job is caring for the surrender cats and enjoys comforting the cats before she cleans their enclosures. The cats feel safe because Selena cares. The skills Selena has learned through PIP makes her a strong contributor in the workforce, and now she has a visual resume to share with potential employers!
